Canada in Brief - Driving in Canada - History of Canada
A walk around will take you to pavement cafes and restaurants, but if you are wanting a lot more from a trip then you might want to keep Ottawa down to a brief visit.
The old town of Montreal offers a lot more for the senses with wonderful street cafes, street misicians, tempting restaurants, cool shops and bustling squares so is certainly worth stopping a while. Toronto once again falls into the former description of Ottawa as there isn't a great deal to jump on the bus for.
There is the sky-high CN Tower of course but you will mainly find yourself wandering through markets or walking along the beachfront boardwalks.
And now for something completely different... the Rocky Mountains which lie between two vast national parks, Banff to the south and Jasper to the north.
Banff was Canada's first official wildlife sanctuary but Jasper National Park has a larger and wilder landscape and also much less explored. Connecting both parks is the Columbia Icefield which is a remnant of the last ice age and is made up of some 30 glaciers.
The Rockies in general offer a great deal from the obvious wildlife walks to caving, swimming, camping, canoeing, mountain climbing and an abundance of places to stay.
