A visit to Italy would not be complete without visiting Rome but here's your tip of the day... take some really, really comfy shoes as you will never do so much walking in your life! There is just so much to see and you will find yourself wanting to see every bit of it. Apart from the numerous ancient hotspots there is also the Vatican too!

For a different type of Italian visit you could head for Sorrento with the nearby island of Capri. Sorrento is where the Italians themselves head for on their holidays so you are in good company if you go there.

Sorrento is mainly shops, bars and restaurants and although we are not beach people our visit would have been better if Sorrento had a beach as it would have made a change from just seeing the town centre everyday. For this reason, Sorrento is more for adults than for children as there is not a lot to do for young ones. One site you simply must visit if you go anywhere near Naples is Pompeii.

Our first impression was utter surprise because of the size and condition of the site, it was spectacular and we stayed for a good 6 hours without being bored. Try though to find your own way there rather than using an organised coach trip because the advertised coach prices were around £20 and we just caught the train and paid around £5 instead.

Venice is a very photographic location with high prices and a strange and rather unpleasant watery smell wafting in the air at all times. Do visit though and experience the atmosphere and the architecture, it's a good afternoon trip.
