Car Hire Greece - Greece in Brief

Greece is made up of well over a hundred inhabited islands and a territory that stretches from the south Aegean to the Balkan countries and the historic sites span over four millennia. Beaches are spread out along a coast line equal the France's in length, and the islands range from backwaters where the boat calls twice a week to resorts as cosmopolitan as any in the Mediterranean.

Modern Greece is a result of extraordinarily diverse influences. Romans, Arabs, Latin Crusaders, Venetians, Slavs, Albanians, Turks, Italians, not to mention the Byzantine Empire, have been and gone since the time of Alexander the Great. All have left their mark: the Byzantines in many churches and monasteries; the Venetians in impenetrable fortifications in the Peloponnese; and other Latin powers, such as the Knights of Saint John and the Genoese, in imposing castles across the northeastern Aegan. Most obvious is the heritage of four centuries of Ottoman Turkish rule which contributed substantially to Greek music, cuisine, language and way of life.

Greeks are fierce guardians of tradition, but that doesn't mean they don't know how to have fun too. The hot sun and the clear seas combine to make the Greece. Weather you're drinking in a beach side taverna, sipping coffee in a shady plateia or dancing in the clubs till dawn.

Greece has everything, from the sprawling metropolis that is the smoggy capital Athens, to blindingly bright beaches scattered all over the islands, from ancient ruins to trend clubs and bars. There is something for everyone in Greece.
